my 20 sceptre transom rebuild
Got the boat inside yesterday to it’s final working spot. Wasted no time in cutting the inside liner from gunnel, across the splash well, and up the other gunnel. Will be replacing the wood in the transom with (?) and raising the notch 5” for my 25” motor. Cutting the liner was easy, removing the whole thing wasn’t. Didn’t sleep well last night, since I couldn’t “pop” the liner. Headed down to the boat at 4am since I couldn’t sleep. Had the thing out by 8:30. Basically, I had to take part of the transom with the liner. Thank God for the wet wood.
Getting that last few inches of wood out was a bear. I never thought it could be so stubborn. Would have been easier if I cut back into the stringer. I probably will during the installation, but wanted the lip there as a reference for the original thickness. I did have to cut out the battery box to gain access on the starboard side, but no love lost there. OK, back to the freaking scuppers, I’ve got plastic ones in there now, but don’t know how well they work, or if they leak. Any one out there with an opinion on water coming onto the deck with this boat? I realize the weight distribution is a bit different than a CC, but I will stand in the back and fish. I’ve got some access to them now, what do you think? Otto, did you say journey or nightmare? Sleepless in CT |
