Scott - I'm not getting any flex in the gunnels there, at least that I noticed last year.With the right angle of it, I would think flex would be diminished due to the 4" - 5" of that inboard vertical flat surface.My teak rod holders were pretty shot, those are some holders made here in Ct. by a company named Solo, I met Bob the owner and he got me a few to try.They have a soft foam inside with a v - cut and you squeeze and lift to open, they are good because they grip the rod so there is no rattling.
