Hi Rich
It is a flat strip made of vinyl, not wood, plastic or metal. There is no lip or U to it. Originally it appeared to be adhered with double face tape and small s/s screws every few inches. I have not seen any other SeaCrafts where this material was used. I don't think it was an after-market deal  BTW: Did you check on the availability of the mono and monel line
