Default fuel vent question

The last really rough day a went out I had a problem with water in my fuel. I have no idea how it got there it has a brand new tank with brand new hoses and everything. At first I thought that the gas station might of sold me watered down gas but I have filled up there many times and never had a problem before, then I talked to another guy with a 20 sc and he said that water would come through his fuel vent. Does anyone else have this problem? I was thinking about maybe putting a clam shell type vent over it, is there any other suggestions?
thanks
-George
