paint products

ok i am almost to the point of painting the liner and floor in my boat. where i have repaired the floor an it is resin/fairing material. do i need to prime these areas or the hole boat? what is a good paint to use,I know there is interlux,pettit and awlgrip.What else is out there good to use? is there a good book i can buy,rent thats has good pointers on paints and what to do.
