62-Racer Stringers
Lots of restorations going on, so I thought I'd bring you up-to-date on the 62 21'.
After much deliberation on what material to use for the stringers, decided to stick with the original Moesly concept, afterall, it worked for 40+ years! Used 1-x spruce, epoxy coated, then glassed in with 1708/mat. Here's the pictures. First, put a ribbon layer of 1708 over the steps for reinforcement. Skip preparing the 1x spuce boards The spruce stringers have been coated with epoxy Stringers are set into place with cabosil & 3M glass bubbles and temporarily braced And final step of 3 layers of 1708/mat overlapping so entire hull has atleast 1 new layer of 1708, 1x2 spruce added to top of outboard stringer with 2 additional layers of 1708 to bring to needed height. All layers of a stringer were done on the same day, so there is a good chemical bond. The outboard stringers are to new cockpit sole height which will be approx 6" off chine to allow for a scupper system. The inboard stringers will have risers/supports added to bring them to the new sole height, same as done in the 60's. Now we're working on where everything will go below the deck, all rigging, batteries, oil tanks, etc. Then will come bulkheads & flooring. Until next time ...
