Default Use gelcoat for non skid???

Finishing up painting and starting to work on interior in future.
I was thinking of using waxed gelcoat and a thick/heavy nap roller to achieve a nonskid effect with the gelcoat???
Has anyone ever done this before or am I better of just using non skid additive or non skid..???
I have a gallon of gelcoat and I dont want it to expire
All help appreciated.
