Reputation of 1996 Johnson 225 Outboards?

I seem to recall that some years in the late '90s were not so trouble free, but were the 1996
models OK. Also, were these knows as 'loopers'...and if so are loopers to be sought after?
I'm re-powering my 23' Potter Tsunami. Thanks...great Forum.
