Default Installing Smith Swivel Flush Mount on Rear of 1986 20 CC

Hi Guys,
I know I asked this before, but I'm going to install Smith swivel flush mount heavy duty rod holders about 2 feet forward of the rear cleat on my 1986 20 foot CC.

I'm going to put in access ports to adjust the tension on the swivel and also so I can use the heavy duty backing plate.

My question is this...since the top of the gunnel is not flat, has anyone tried this before? Is my best option to use a sawsall to flatten out where the rod holder will go? A hole saw and only cut a little bit?

I'm just trying to figure out the best way that will cause me the least custom fiberglassing afterwards to make the install look nice.

Thanks,
Rick
