23 inboard raw water pickup question

My inboard has a valve built right in to the base of the fitting similar to this on the starboard side about midship. It supplies raw water to my strainer that is located forward of the engine in the hatch in front of the console.

At some point I am planning on eliminating the stand alone strainer and moving just to the south bay strainer style that mounts on the bottom of the hull.
