Default Fishbox hose help

I'm trying to replace the hose from the front fishbox drain to a thru hull below the water line on my '70 20sf and I'm having a tough time. I've been to several marine stores and bought a few different 1" i.d. hoses that all seem to kink when fitted onto the thruhull. I ended up getting a preformed 90 degree radiator hose from the auto parts store and it works perfect, but now I'm worried that it's not marine grade hose and is below the waterline. I've attached a pic of the marine grade hose to show how it kinks and how close the two fittings are to each other. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks Tom
