Default Cooler more of a "warmer"

Hope it is ok to post this since my boat is not a "classic"

On my 2003 23' Seacraft center console the cooler is under a lift up seat molded into the front part of the console. I don't think it has any insulation and therefore does not hold ice very long at all. Anyone ever drill holes and spray foam between the inner and outer walls of this "cooler"? I think there is about a 1" gap there. The seal between the lift up seat and the cooler below is not tight at all either. Is there a better solution than sawzalling this cooler piece off the console and buying a real cooler in its place?

My last boat was a 21' and had a separate cooler with tie down straps to the deck. That held ice for days. This one is a terrible design and I hate warm drinks!

Thanks for any ideas.
