I am subscribed to the FWC red tide monitoring and when they stared sending me bi- weekly updates last week I knew it wasn’t going to be good. Aside from the inshore sampling being what it is, the offshore samples are just as bad if not worst. If it is as bad as it was six years ago up here the reefs, wrecks and ledges it touches will be wiped clean in days. I hope this isn’t the case as we are just now starting to see small red grouper and hogs again but the tropicals and invertebrates are still slow coming back.

I was torn on the decision when I called Terry as our event is much more than fishing, but after I spoke with our rental host she confirmed the conditions were already becoming hazardous to those susceptible and I wasn’t going to drag my wife and granddaughter down all that way for a week and put them at risk.

Let’s continue to talk about a spring event and get our next gathering lined up. I like the east coast for spring as the early dolphin, wahoo and tuna run is pretty predictable from St Augustine down to Sebastian. I also still think somewhere in the panhandle would be nice for something new.
That sounds nice.
