On one of my old hulls I sanded into the gel fairly hard with 120 grit with a Hutchins line sander and then added 5 layers of 2000e primer (grey and then white back and forth to be able to see high spots or the roven) blocking down between the layers of primer trying to get the roven print threw out. About 2 years latter it started to show up again slightly. I should of did like you and removed all the gel completely.

Yea that shrunken old gelcoat is what the problem really is. The stuff on this hull looked like a dried up lake bed or something hahah. Hopefully gonna let some high build fly this weekend...on the hullsides anyway, bottom needs some more work sharpening the steps back up and whatnot.
