200 Ficht vs 200 HPDI
With April 15 coming up and the rebate or extra 4 yrs on Ficht specials ending, I wanted to put out one last call for peoples thoughts. I thought I was going to pull the trigger on twin Fichts until I heard Bombardier was putting the Recreational Division for Sale. Just when they were turning the corner More Uncertainty! Bottom line is this is alot of cash to drop and who knows who will purchase Ficht and if they will drive the company into the ground . I am thinking quality, resale value and Price. I have not heard anything bad about HPDI's but they seem to be more expensive and times 2 that is a double the pain.
So far I can get a 2002 200 Ficht for $11,000. 2003 200 HPDI comes in around $13,700. Is it worth the money for the quality, performance and peace of mind? Add tax, controls and installation the HPDI will be over $30,000 OUCH! Any thoughts are appreciated |

Re: 200 Ficht vs 200 HPDI
There's always Merc. The Optimax is as good as the rest.

Re: 200 Ficht vs 200 HPDI
I like the Evinrude DI big blocks. I think you can probably wait 6 months and get a better price. They're asking 1.5 billon for the rec division.
Considering resale, I would look at your boat most positively in 2 or 3 years if it had Yamaha 200HPDI or 4 stroke, Honda 200, Suzuki 200 4 stroke (coming this season) or Merc 200 DI in that order. How much for a little 200 Yanmar turbo? Otto [ April 09, 2003, 09:35 PM: Message edited by: Otto Cuyler ]

Re: 200 Ficht vs 200 HPDI
I WOULD GO WITH THE YAMAHA’S MYSELF THEY ARE VERY DEPENDABLE AND YOU KNOW THEY WILL BE THERE 10 YEARS DOWN THE LINE PLUS IF AND WHEN YOU SELL THE YAMAHA WILL BE WORTH SOMETHING BUT THE RUDE”S DEPENDING ON WHAT HAPPENS MIGHT NOT BE WORTH ANYTHING. HOW BIG IS THAT BOAT OF YOURS? COULD YOU GO WITH ONE 250 INSTEAD??

Re: 200 Ficht vs 200 HPDI
Here I am beating a dead horse again but, fishbote, why not give up a little speed and consider twin 140hp 4 stroke suzuki's. I bet with tax you could be on the water for under 17k total. Otherwise, nix the whole outboard issue and buy a 260hp yanmar turbo diesel package with a bravo drive for about 23k! Now talk about resale!!!!

I read this thread this morning about the sale of Evinrude/Johnson. The news may not be bad after all. www.thehulltruth.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=382602711&f=436600231&m=5386012882

Whoever you choose go with a brand that has a local dealer you trust.
