Billybob

The contours on the inside of the boat are going to be tough but atleast it provides a start/finish point(no wet edge)Our boats share the same layout. Sanding after painting must be rather time consuming also. I think when we talked before this board was up you mentioned that the paint was Easypoxy?? what kind of set up do you have for spraying?? how big is the compressor and what kind of spray gun?? I assume you did all the non skid and how hard was that??

I may need to see what kind of deal I can get if I do all the preliminary work and just let them Awlgrip it. The weather thing concerns me and only working on it on the weekends really limits the amount of good weather I'll have

Like I said before you did a really nice job from the looks of the pics on the site and thanks for the info Keep it coming!!!

I had real good luck with Imron on my old mako and cost me around 500 bucks. (Mid 1980's) Sprayed it outside , fumes are very toxic so respirator was mandatory. Heres a link to some pix, any questions Ill try and answer, Craig
(well my link is gone so if you still want to see them I can scan them and post them)

Hows the painting coming??

I received that video on Awlgrip and watched it, (the Wife thought I bought a porno, after she saw that it was about painting I think she wished it was one !!!She couldnt believe that I needed a video on how to paint)....Anyhow .... boy do they make that look easy! I think a little too easy....I also talked with Awlgrip about what I wanted to do.....this was all provoked by a $ 9,000 estimate I received to paint the inside of the boat!!! Thats alittle rich for me!!! Then went to a big marina and they have an 80'-90' yacht that they are fixing up that will occupy the spraying shed until August!!! So I think I'll give the roll&tip thing a whirl..

Are you using Awlgrip or did you say you were trying out Sterling Paints??? Hows it working for you??

HA SCOTT
I HAVE BEEN USING STERLING PAINT SO FAR. I STILL HAVE TIME TO CHANGE IF I NEED TO. I PAINTED THE INSIDE OF THE HATCHES LIKE I TOLD YOU WITH THE BRIGHTSIDE AND I HAVE PUT ON PRIMER TO THE DECK SIDE OF THE HATCHES AND PRIMERED THE CENTER CONSOLE AS WELL I USED A FOAM 4 “ ROLER WITH NO BRUSHING AT ALL I FOUND THAT WHEN I BRUSHED THE PRIMER IT CAUSED MORE STREAKS THAT I WANTED TO SAND OFF. AFTER IT DRIED I SANDED IT OUT WITH 150 GRIT BLOCK AND HAND SANDING AND THIS WEEK I WILL PUT ON THE FIRST COAT OF TOP COAT. THEN A COAT ON NON SKIT ON THE HATCH DOORS AND THEN A 3RD COAT OVER IT.
I AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT THE VIDEO I LOOKED AT IT THIS MORNING THE SECOND TIME AND DECIDED THEY LEFT OUT SOME STUFF THEY SHOULD HAVE ADDED. I THINK THEY TALKED ABOUT SANDING OK BUT THEY DIDN’T TALK ABOUT FAIRING OTHER THAT THE FEW SCRAPES THAT WERE ON THE HULL. FAIRING AND SANDING CAN BE A BIG JOB. THEY ALSO DIDN’T TALK ABOUT DIFFERENT FAIRING COMPOUNDS THAT AWLGRIP MAKE AND USE. THEY DIDN’T TALK ABOUT THE ROLLERS ENOUGH IN THE BOOK THEY TALK ABOUT THE FOAM TYPE ROLLERS AND IN THE VIDEO IT WAS A SHORT NAP TYPE ROLLERS. THE THING THAT THEY LEFT OUT ALL TOGETHER WAS KEEPING DUST AND DIRT AND BUGS OFF YOUR FRESH PAINT. THAT GUY WAS PAINTING OUTSIDE WITH NO WIND PROTECTION. YOU NEED TO BUY SOME PLASTIC SHEETS AND PROTECT AT LEASE THE LAST COAT OF PAINT OR YOU WILL HAVE BIG PROBLEMS.
THIS WEEKEND I WAS SANDING THE DECK AND DOING SOME MORE FAIRING WORK. I HOPE THE SANDING AND APPLYING FAIRING COMPOUND WILL BE COMPLETED. SO ALL I WILL HAVE TO DO IS JUST PRIMER AND SANDING A ND PAINTING AND SANDING AND PAINTING.
I DO BELIEVE IT WILL COME OUT GOOD WITH THE ROLLER TIP METHOD AND I KNOW I WILL SAVE $4-5 GRAND DOING IT MYSELF.
