Finz2Right, I think you mean the middle of the sides right? If thats the case than yes there can be some flex. The Old SC's consist of a hull, inner liner and a top cap. There is nothing between the hull and inner liner as you may think, the inner liner attaches to the hull along the srtingers. Unlike most newer boats which are foam filled though out.
My top cap is currently off and without the ridgity of being fastened to hull and inner liner it flex's like crazy.
