My 20'cc dark/navy blue hull is in need of some touch-up work until I have time for a complete redo. The previous owner apparently had no docking skills as there are many scratches thru the gelcoat, mostly small ones. Any suggestions on temporary cosmetic fixes?

RC,
I am right up the road from you. There are a couple of auto paint supply places on the north side of Orlando in the phone book that sell gelcoat. The can probably mix you up a quart and color match it for touch ups. Then it's just a matter of cleaning out the nicks real good, wipe it down with acetone on a q-tip, mix a little gelcoat with hardner, get a touchup brush, and fill it in. The deeper ones might need more than one coat. Then wetsand, compound, and buff. Do a couple in the "less visible" areas until you get your technique down. BTW, tie the boat down, Jeanne is a coming.... |
