I had a 1985 140 suzuki (2 stroke) when I bought in 96. It ran right at 38-40, top end. Repowered with a 130 Johnson V4, top end right at 43, cruise @ 30 mph/4200 rpm. I agree weight is a huge factor especially if you use the livewell in the floor. My 130 weights about 380 lbs. it is not to heavy. I sealed my well off in the floor and use it as positive flotation and added a transom mounted livewell on the back, works great! Several guys on the site have those 4 stroke 140's and they appear to not be tail heavy. If you need any pic's, email me.
