I am looking at a 16 inch Edson wheel.

I believe that the one that I know of for sale locally comes with a 3/4 inch taper and a 5/8 nut.

I guess that I have I will have to pop/unglue the teak top to my SeaStar helm unit to see if it is compatible.

Peter, Why 16" size wheel ? I just snagged the 13" Gemlux brand keeping with the "Gucci" lifestyle

Because I can get it cheap Capt Chuck (hopefully around $100 (used of course) with the Edson knob.

The 3/4in taper is the standard for the industry.

1/2in nut is standard mechanical helm and 5/8in nut is standard for hyd.
