I am building a hardtop for my boat. My only performance concern is when I put on the Isenglass the wind resistance will make a diference. But more fuel and less speed don't bother me when comming back in high winds and 60o water from Catalina Island.
What power are you useing?
One other thing, I puutting a semi bridge on top that can be removed for towing. The added visabuility would be nice but I won't install it untill I have a chance to close my transom and go to a bracket.

Here is a picture of my Sceptre with a hardtop

The downsides are, weight, accessibility to the front, and if you catch the wind from the side, it will lean the boat over some. You will also lose 2-3 mph on the top end from the wind resistance.
