My 23 ft 1971 SF had the same kind of material on the front bulkhead. It was fadded and ugly.
My friend had the same problem on his and I copied his solution.
Go to Home depot and but a piece of white formica. Made a cardboard template before cutting formica. Glued formica on with contact cement. I had to loosen the screws and file down the formica a little to get in in back of the plywood but it looks great and washes up nice.
