Thanks Finny, we can all learn from these unfortunate events.
![]() Was Peter's hatch leaking excessively. In that case it is just a matter of time for bilge pumps to drain the battery. I have a Bomar hatch that seems to be pretty water tight and 2 Rule 1500 bilge pumps. Also curious on your thoughts if the vent water line was the start of the end or the end was already happening prior that the thruhull scuppers were inverting. Maybe it is hard to say, but i figured once the water is close to my vents i am already done. But then again it will take some serious weight to take my pool noodles down! ![]() Peter, best of luck in any direction ... ![]() - Nick |

Nick, the hatch was up just enough for water to trickle in and I think once the water reached the vents it was all over. I see boats all the time that hang indefinitely with the transom well under water, at the same line as Peter's. My thoughts are if the vents weren't there it probably would have just hung at a certain point (maybe?).
His boat actually wasn't done sinking when I got there. The pic with the boat on its side was the state when I arrived. Then out of nowhere it started the death roll and the top went under.

Hey Peter-
I've been on the new 26' Jones. Nice boat...real wide built like a tank. If I am not mistaken, it is now made with a fiberglass stringer grid and not wood. Anyway, If you are interested in one, shoot me a PM and I will give you the name of number of someone who will give you a very good deal on one. |

Yeah, back when I was selling Joneses....I went on a factory in 2005. It was just me and good old Donnie. He showed me around and I was able to see them building the plug for the stringer grid. He also took me to the top secret department where his latest project was....it was the beginnings of the 26 under a big tarp in the corner of the factory. Great boat, super people.

PeterB sorry to here about your boat, I hope it all works out in the end. Donnie Jones is an old SeaCraft man; I bought his SF23 “Only Money” last year, I am in the process of restoring her. He told me he wished he had never sold it. Good luck with the new boat what ever you choose!
