If you end up building one, may I suggest a built in LED or other low level red or orange coutesy light being added. Down low, they will give off a light across the cockpit sole without too much interference with that all importnat night vision. The factory bases have a liner with an overboard outlet, though they are not sealed at the top to the outer covering of the base, so the inner liner would need some glassing attention if your thought is to use them as a livewell.

Just a penny's worth of advise.
