TO FOAM OR NOT TO FOAM? What is the general consensus? It seems, according to most pics that the foam is left out. For those of you completed with your projects and back in the water has it changed the ride or noise?
As one of the F.N.G.'s on this board, I was just wondering. My wife is getting really tired of this web-site. When asked why I am spending so much time here I just tell her " I MIS-REMEBERED"

center stringer waterlogged. Kept having water show up at transom and couldn't find out from where. Cleaned most or all of foam out, ground and brushed stringers...nothing. Drilled a few pilot holes in center stringer and water was weeping out around drill bit.
Do I need to plan on replacing it or will it dry out? ![]() another pic ![]() Oh, what would we do without projects? need some help here. thanks

I dont think that in the center is a stringer??? Mine has what looks to be the same as yours and it is a half peice of pvc glassed over for drainage purposes! I may be wrong??

well your right, my terminology is a little off. This appears to be more like a 2x4 that has been glassed over, or used as a mold. There is no curvature to it. It is definetly draining h2o though, I wonder how hard it would be to replace? It is not hollow though, it is either wood of foam that came out on my drill bit.

My boat is a 1975 sf. I have the glassed over 2x4 as a center stringer. I was suprised to find that it was dry at the transom. I didn't cut up the floor or fuel tank bottom so I'm not sure about the rest of it. I'm really not sure about replacing it if its wet. I would think that even if it is a little wet, you would still have the glass for strength. On the other hand, you have the whole thing exposed, so it would not be that difficult to replace.

so much for saving the transom. Glad I did this now.
![]() port side ![]() another close up ![]() Looks like it is coming apart for me, hopefully will be able to save it and use as a template. I had to stop and pick up the Kid-o so it looks pretty sloppy right now, should be able to get it out, cleanup and straighten some cuts today.
