Re: Twins on a 1978 23ft center console
I have a 23 with a single 225 on the transom. If I ever went with twins I would close off the transom and add a good flotation bracket. The 23’s with twins while drift fishing like everyone does in Key West would cause water over the stern with your wind conditions lets say from 3-5 & 4-6’.

Re: Twins on a 1978 23ft center console
I have a 23 with twin 120's and have seen yamaha 130's, but I think the zuks are heavier. My 120s are about 300# each, if that helps.

Re: Twins on a 1978 23ft center console
Tbone,
You didn't mention if you have a CC or cabin model. The cabin model would take the weight. I have a 1978 CC that has twin 115 suzuki 4 strokes. They were mounted on the transom and were slightly heavy. I now have a braket, enclosed transom and also went from an 8ft 150 gallon fuel tank to a 5 1/2 foot 100 gallon tank which moved some weight forward. The boat sits nicely and won't take on water though the scuppers unless you stand in the back corner. I just use plugs in the scupper holes. The twin 140's will sit low and overall i would recommend just going with a 250 or 300 suzuki. If I were to repower I'd get a 300 Suzi. It weighs mid to low 600's while my 115's tip the scales at 416 each. Performance wise I get 25.5kts(10 gph) at 4000 and 39kts at 5950 spinning 23" ss props, non CR. The 140's would probably pick up 2kts.

Re: Twins on a 1978 23ft center console
Just put twin 150 Yahama 4 strokes on 76 Savage with bracket. Top end 49 mhp with 2.7 gph at 28 mph. The bracket is a must with that much weight on the back.
