I have mine mounted on gunnels but yet to try them. I can already see them ripping out if I encounter rough seas...even with my plywood and aluminum backing plates!!!. I agree being up top is a challenge especially if you dont have the top gun type set up etc where you can pivot from a standing position.... instead of having to stand on gunnel and reaching up high over t- top etc.

The top gun style, really suck, my friend has had all kinds of trouble, the pins, fall out, the collars unscrew and strip. There are some design issues with those. I made it a point to get Taco but a different style.

I came up with a decent halyard anchor point for the Taco style. It's a small titanium plate that uses one bolt (outboard rear)to clip the halyard to. No corrosion and out of the way.

the reason for having a t top is to beable to walk around the centervconsole mounting or attatching riggers to the gunnel defeats this purpose. if you can live with that ok if not not ok.... as for using riggers i personally will not own a boat without them even on a 18 foot cc we pull 5-7 baits with out tangles of oshits.... it takes pratice but i pull almost the same spread on a 18cc that we pull on a 60 sportfish our next goal is to have pics of a fish longer than the boat along side for a photoshoot...
