Well, it's not all bad: 144 gal., or 130 gal. with 10% reserve gives a range of 250 to 300 miles Can you say canyon runs even here in Massachusetts? The down sides are basically two: 1. It is a hell of a lot of old fuel in the spring if you come down on the side of winter storage with full tanks to reduce the amount of air in the tank leading to continuos condensation, thus water in the tanks, and 2. alot of weight which simply accentuates the weight of an I/O and its effect on the COG.
The good news is that I plan to increase the HP from 260 to 315+ when I repower it and given the tanks age, I will replace it with two smaller tanks- say 80 gal. forward and 40-50 gal. aft (inline) and just use the forward tank and have the second for those occassions that I contemplate a particuarly long run. This configuration should offset most of the weight/COG issues of the I/O and lead to better overall performance and efficiency. All of this is made possible due to the VDR hull and its inherent lifting abilities as conpared to other hulls in the same size category. Just another big reason to LOVE my seacraft. If only I could find a job that would begin to get me back close to where I was when things started to go south! In case you're curious, my background is in sales management and business development of Clinical electronic technologies and Clinical information systems. Past results have been substantial; i.e. > 500% revenue growth in 3 years with comparable increases in market share and margins. I hope this mention doesn't offend anyone, but I thought I'd say something; there are probably 500+ people reading this board regularly and another 600+ occasionally and the each one know dozens, if not hundreds of people.
