I hope its not a slow and painful end

The out drive does have two cylinders so it is good to go in that regards. I was wondering if anyone knows the time line of the 290 out drive...what year it was put into production and what differs from a 270-280? this boat is a 1973 and the motor says 261 on the hour meter...I guess I was wondering if this set up was from the factory or if it was repowered at some point?
