Making doors/hatches?
I want to make some new locking doors on the console of my 69 20 SF since the previous owner made the doors out of oak, which has not stood up to the salt very well. Also would like a to make an anchor locker door up front as well. I guess the simplest thing to do would be to buy some starboard and cut it to the dimensions of the current doors, but it is very expensive! Any suggestions on how to do this cheaply & properly? Re: Making doors/hatches?
Check around your area to see if there is a marine surplus place. There is one by me that sells starboard "scraps" for very cheap prices.

Re: Making doors/hatches?
There is also a guy on ebay that sells it by the sq. foot w/ free shipping to the 48 states. Will cut to your dimension (just rounds it up to the next sq foot).
Price depends on thickness. 3/4" = $14/sq. ft, 1/2" = $10/sq. ft Still not CHEAP but way cheaper than retail. Just bought 3 sq ft the other day to redo my rod holders in the gunwale. Link to his 3/4" page: http://cgi.ebay.com/3-4-WHITE-OR-BLA...item45f09d894b |

Re: Making doors/hatches?
Wow thanks for the tip! I have been following your thread on your project, nice work! Do you guys think I should use 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2" starboard?

Re: Making doors/hatches?
Hmmm if you have the Oak doors still I'd base it off the size of those and go from there. You gonna do white or black? (Just curious)

Re: Making doors/hatches?
Guess I'll stick with 1/2". Goina do white. Black could be interesting though.
