Jupiter inlet incident

My heart goes out to the family, it has got to be difficult enough without seeing the entire thing unfold on the news. Hopefully they are finding a way to cope.

I have also traveled Jupiter, Boyton, and Boca over the years. All of them, and most inlets can give you a problem if things line up just so. Some require conditions to be proper and the Captain to be on his toes. Just a small mistake can cause a major issue.

I am sure this captain has been in and out of that inlet a bunch with no issue. He knew what he was doing. Of course it only took a split second to get in trouble. This could happen to anyone on any given day.

Let's try to take something from this, and watch ourselves. Most have a much smaller boat and less time on the water. This should show you how easy it is to get in trouble. A life jacket is not a bad idea and perhaps the next time I am in a questionable situation I will throw one on.

Jupiter almost bit me in the ass last spring. So close I can still taste it. The few local Cap`s I`ve spoken with are still in shock.

I still can`t believe a Garlington rolled that far without hitting the bar. In the first pics, I can see very light water in front of her. Sad days around the docks here. Very sad.

Boynton may have a higher ranking, but Jupiter scares me more. A lot more.

Maybe because I was a pier rat for so long at Boynton. I know a few tricks from watchin` the Crackers in Jon boats. Yeah, Jon boats. You can hug the So. jetty in a trough or hug the N. jetty comin` in and avoid the washing machine altogether. Fouling a prop with mono from the rats is almost a given if you choose this. A few errant sinkers too.
Wear a helmet. I gotta get my anchor chocked on deck. That cut is skinny. Not a good place to lose power.
