Default Rod Holder Placement

Before I drill holes for my rod holders I would like to get some input from some of the heavy duty fisher people out there.

I will mainly do off shore fishing. Mostly for grouper and snapper. Some Mackerel but that is about it.

I do have 2 Penn Down riggers with a 30 degree stand.

Here is what I am thinking. 0 degree 8 feet back from transom... 15 degree 4 feet back...30 degree on transom and a foot in from edge.

Now is the time for change...so let me know before I drill

your transom holders should be the 15*, 30* on the sides. 30* out the transom puts the rod tips and leader grabbing to far to reach

Terry, I've got 30 degree holders in all six locations. The back four point straight to the rear for flatlines and the front two point to the outside for the outriggers. I think this is pretty common.

This is my set up and fairly typical.

You can see my flat line release clips by the halyard line at the transom. You run the line from the rod tip down through the release clips, which is great at reducing crossing and keeping baits in the water when it`s sloppy.

All 4 holders are 30*. All measurements are O.C., and from transom forward. Flat lines 52 1/2" facing rear. Rigger lines are 83 1/2" but angled out 45* pointing to halyards.

Lee`s bases are 100 1/2" and halyard hoop connection is 12" aft of base hole O.C. again.

I run Trip Ese rigger clips because they are micro adjustable and consistent. Good quality ss and nylon/delrin?

I have those Tigress 1 1/8 riggers with Lee`s elbows if you have any interest. Maybe used 4 times. Too heavy for my flexing top cap.

Do your down riggers have integrated rod holders?

What is top speed so far?

Looking great,
GFS
