Ya, 230, it is insane. The rebuilders planned on fishing the Canyons off NJ I believe during the right window. The way the thing takes a sea, it's not that far fetched. Pretty sure you would use pretty close to the whole tank with those engines. I never had much more than 150 gallons in the boat. There is a below deck tank of about 165 gallons and then a tank that takes up a bunch of room under the console. Definitely overkill for me. If I ever end up putting a dog house on there instead of the console/t-top like I want to, I will probably get rid of that second tank, although it is a nice piece of mind. With my re-power I would probably have some pretty good range huh?
Bigshrimp, yes I was down there. Kind of hard to miss that boat. I love the boat, not crazy about the color. In my mako I didn't get boarded once in 5 years. I had this boat for 3 weeks and was boarded once. The second time I was in the middle of that fleet and the coast guard game out. I was fishing by myself. The very first boat they came up to, guess? I was pretty happy I had been boarded the week before, I got to just show my paper work. Last edited by junior11; 12-01-2011 at 03:47 AM. |

Hey Junior,
We saw you get boarded on opening day right in the middle of the pile after the fog lifted. Boy did everyone 'slowly" move away from the CG and the green boat. Good luck with your re-power.

WOW that is one GREEN boat!
I am really interested in your 250 re-power, I am leaning toward that way with mine when I do re-power.

Hermit, I had to laugh at that one. The guys I fish with her heckling me on the radio when they saw that go down. Figures the one time I have 1-200 odds and hit, it works against me. The green cop was a good guy. He fished around in the brine for a while and picked a couple out, realized he was fighting a losing battle. I talked with him at the ramp numerous times after. He was pretty pleasant to deal with.
Sure is... they didn't call it the greenrunner for nothing... I will let you know. I am definitely not going to have any numbers until the spring. I would love to grab a local trade in somewhere unless I hit the lottery. I would really love the yamaha 300, but that is a pipe dream I think. I just don't want to go with the 250 and end up with a dog when I have a load on. |

250 zuke on that boat is not a dog! I've been on nat chalkley's boat with a Limit of bass (600lbs ish) and water over flowing out of the fish box . . . That boat blasts through 3ft chop without any trouble 30 - 35mph cruise fully loaded.
Loaded with 80 gallons, 2 people, 400lb pilot house, and 25hp kicker, My old single 1979 2.4L 200 merc 15P prop my 23 cruises at 27/28mph tops out at 38/39 mph and jumps on a plane no problem. You have 2.5L EFI mercs which are quite a bit more powerful than my old vertical reed piston ported motor. These boats don't need a ton of power. 250hp is plenty to move that boat into the mid 40's and cruise at 30 ![]() Last edited by Bigshrimpin; 12-01-2011 at 11:33 PM. |

I looked into this rig before buying my Contender. It was out of my price range but looked great!
Just for reference my 23 Contender runs great with the 250 2 stroke. We have had it loaded down with 4 adults, fuel, coolers, beach toys and 5 kids going out to Egmont key with no issues with the extra weight. Top speed is around 48 mph and cruise is in the 30's. I cant give you any fuel burn numbers but its not bad on the wallet.

I switched from twin 120 Johnsons to a single 1988 Johnson 225 on my 23' Tsunami. (The twins didn't run when I got the boat). Performance was good. WOT of 40 mph. Cruise at 24-25. But terrible on fuel consumption. 11-12 gph at cruise.

11-12gph is great for a 88 3.0L OMC.
