One of my older boats had the old style push pull switches and they all worked fine. i installed a pump with a new switch and the switch failed in one season. I bought a more expensive better looking new switch and it lasted one season. Modern made in china junk. A friend had a 30 year old push pull switch on his leftover boat stuff so I put it in and it has worked perfect for the last several seasons. I no longer buy new switches but watch garage sales, flea markets etc. for the good old USA made switches made with brass and stainless.
I also had the same experience with windshield wiper motors. New ones were good for one season only.
