This may be of interest(or maybe not) to some of you.I assume all of you knew this anyway,unless you had no clue like me.

I had asked about getting a Mirage stainless prop rehubbed as I had one go on me while running.It was a plain older style Mercury Mirage 15.5x17 with a 15 spline hub,not the newer style Plus series with the replaceable hub insert.

Anyway I brought it to a local prop shop to have it re-hubbed and the tech looked at it and said that I was in luck,because this prop is also able to accept the torq-flo hub system,as it has a square type inner recess.This was good because with the regular pressed in hubs,they can be more prone to failure after they are rehubbed.
The props are so heavy that when throttle is applied to the engine the rubber hub can spin or fail when it's trying to move that heavy mass.

With the replaceable torq flo hub,a delrin(plastic)sleeve fits in the square recess, locking the prop securely, and keeping it from spinning.It's also designed to sacrifice itself if the prop hits a solid object,and is a big help in saving your lower unit gearcase.

The best thing is that the replaceable sleeve is only about $20.00, so you can keep a spare on board in the event of a mishap.It's a heck of as lot better than not being able to use the boat while waiting to get a new prop.Even nicer is that hubs are available to fit every major brand of outboard or stern drive.

***So,even if you have an older prop,it may accept the new hub system***
