After a raceboat was "retired" many of them did become test boats for Mr. K. The driver's drove them 24/7 to test the durability of Merc engines. The Knee at the transom? It may have been put on the smaller (25'-26') raceboats as they spent a lot of time jumping those 10-12' seas. Hull out of water with props biting = extra torque or stress on the transom. The knee provided extra support. The 28' and 29' didn't jump so much. In a 1968 Nassau race, I did find another 25' SeaCraft, #505, named Joan E., drivers Powers and Thayer. The onion keeps getting more interesting.
