I pulled my leaning post so I had space back there. Might be better on a 21 footer with a non MA cap.

As for fastening? There are a lot of opinions. I know if you do it wrong you can expect to fix the fuel tank hatch and the deck. I think bushwacker might mention polysulfide caulk and overdrilling and backfilling with epoxy.

To avoid that, the feet for my T-Top sit on ~6"x6" pads of Garolite (fiberglass) 1 " thick that I stuck down with 3M 5200. Works at 75 MPH on the highway. I drilled and tapped that for either 5/16-18 or maybe 1/4-20. Bomb proof. As long as you prep with acetone and NOT alcohol.
