Flush Mount Rod Holders

This is just a thought, but if you like a 10" rod holder but its too long when mounted, can you cut a couple inches off the bottom?

Thanks. I guess cut it just below the cross pin/bar. May weaken it a little but nay be a worth while trade off. Thanks
