I am a newbie on this forum, but not to boat repair. I love the SeaCrafts and am currently looking at what is advertised as a 1977 20' SeaCraft. This boat has no motor on it, but has a full transom and an older stainless Armstrong bracket for the outboard. The hull appears in good shape and floor is solid. However, the interior layout of the boat is not like any SeaCrafts that I have seen or any of the photos on this or other sites. In the bow of the boat there are two facing built in benches rather than the platform, and there is a long recessed area between the two sides that runs all the way back to the console. Is this a SeaCraft?
The hull hasn't been painted but there is no SeaCraft name on it. I'd put a digital photo of the interior of the boat, but I don't know how to add it to this message. Thanks for any help. |

Does it have the stepped hull? _I_
Is there a drain out of a forward fish box that exits the starboard side of the hull? Does the owner claim to have made any modifications? .....never seen a bow like that in an original but if it was redone at some point, that may account for that. |

Are we talking about a CC? If so it sounds like a I/O Seafari converted to a CC.
There had to be some work done at one point to have a bracket put on. Duncan do you have the hull ID? That would help verify if it is a Seacraft and what year.

Thanks for the information. The boat does have a stepped hull. I don't have a hull number, but I think that you may be right that this boat as been converted to a center console. that would explain the step down in front and lack of drain holes. I will get the hull number from the owner.

There were recently a number of CC's posted on the for sale board from boattraderonline.com that were very reasonably priced. Unless the boat you are considering is priced REALLY cheaply, you may want to also consider the others on the market that started out their life as center consoles - if that is the configuration that you want. Resale would likely be affected...

Duncan, I was interested in the same boat..I'm buying into the multiple boat theory. Check out boattrader, the price has crept up from last week. Anyway, the owner told me it was definetly an I/O conversion to the bracket and outboard. Not sure how good the deck work is? Sounds like you should check into it a little further. Good luck, I tried to get the owner to shoot me some pics, and it was like pulling teeth. I live in Arlington and was not up for the three plus hour ride to look at the boat. I already have an 84 MA and love the boat, just can't justify having two...maybe a 23 though...

Seacraft 84: I live in Falls Church and made the drive (took 2 and 1/2 hrs) last weekend. The boat is definitely a double conversion: i/o to ob and cubby to cc. I have digital photos if you want to see what you're missing. Let me know and I'll shoot them over to your email address (let me know if you want low or high resolution).
Love to see your '84 sometime. I have decided to give the boat a miss. I am still shopping for a fixer up, but I'd like an unaltered boat. |

Duncan,
Welcome to ClassicSeaCraft.com. Thanks for your post. I think many of us would like to see the images of the double conversion. You can post them here or email them to me and I'll be happy to put them up.
