Joe, Can you tell me where you found the hull #. I just picked up what I was told was a 1972 cc. On initial exam I could not find an id # anywhere. It does sound similar to your layout. gary

Is the hull ID number that you refer to embossed into the gelcoat (upper starboard side of transom) or is it a tag?

The ID and spec. tag was on a thin alum. plate about 2x3 in .it was on the motor well. when I bought the boat 18 years ago it was hard to read, and it peeled off the hull many years ago. Joe R

Sounds like the TAG is an '86. The actual year of the boat MAY be hard to determine exactly.
I think you can be reasonably certain that it is a pre-'72 Potter hull. I also have a yellow 20' that had a metal tag for the hull ID number in place of where they are nowdays. They apparently weren't embossed into the hull/gelcoat until after '71 sometime, as my '71 didn't originally have hull ID numbers. |

Thanks Mark I just found a copy of an ad for a 1969 20 cc photo in it is an I.O.looks a lot like mine except for the power ,has wood covers to . however the copy has on address just some specs. If my boat is a 1970 you say its not a potter built boat does this make mine less valuble. looks like most guys like the potters. JOE R

Joe,
There is a lot of discussion on this site and others about the virtues of different periods of SeaCraft production. In my talks with people that have refurbished MANY SeaCrafts through the years, there can be good and bad hulls from ANY year. It is my understanding that the "Potter" years were from 1969/70-1980. If your boat works well for you I really wouldn't worry too much about when it was built. There are some pretty boats owned by people on this site from just about every year of production. I doubt very much that the fish know the difference |
