From what I've seen I like the Lowrance for REALLY Fast redraws and AWESOME graphics and where it might be a good deepwater unit, the mapping features do not overzoom enough for productive use on concentrated rocky & structured areas. You can only overzoom to about.4 miles where you can get down to .18 on the Garmin. But the Garmin doesn't approach the dollar value of the Lowrance in screen size and display quality.

I wish I still had my source for 1650/1850 units at GREAT prices

A little more info ....

Most boaters that purchased the 1650, later wished that they had bought the bigger screen 1850.

I can not find my notes, but besides the bigger screen there were a few 1850 slight differences. I believe metal housing, 1kw transducer and remote control options.

Due to size restrictions I have/will put 1650F's in both of my boats. I love them. I have the older version and have not had issues with sun glare, althouh some complain of this, I think Furuno now offeres better screens on the new units.

I just picked up a new in the box GP 1650F for $730 on Ebay I think that is a good deal? I know I like the unit. i just hope it arives as the seller described (new in box).

Jason,

That sounds like a good deal.

The new GP 1650WF (WASS & AR coated screen) are going for ~ $1,150.

If the moon, sun and my 1850wf line up, you still can barely see. Slight tilt and its back, under a top would not be an issue.

For almost 1/2 the price i would take a "new" older version. Besides i read in the past, that a company(can not remember the name) would AR the screens of the older models to help greatly reduce the glare.

Good luck ..... (Ebay : oh, i am sorry, i meant it is a used unit in a "new box" ... ha!)

- Nick

Just beware on Ebay. If the mailing address is a foreign country DO NOT BUY. 8 people got scammed on a 1650 at $850.00 a pop..Easy Money for a crook

The scam was for GP1850's both JohnR and I signed up for those too but Ebay warned us not to proceed with the transaction before it was too late.

I bet it was after the 1650 scam. I filed a complaint with FBI and every other agency. But I was a victim. Lost all my $$$ in that deal.Lessons learned!
