Re: tuna outing this Sat ??
Nice blue fish guys. How do you cook them so you can actually eat them ?
You guys up north must realy like to fish. I can hardly get people to fish in 2-4 down here even in 23 - 25 footers. My buddy has a 18' mckee that he has rigged to the gills we fish it out to about 60 miles it holds 70 gal and we usally come back with at least 1/4 tank even on a 130 miles round trip. You just cant get in a hurry or you'll be paddalin home. Last trip was about 60 miles run took 3 hrs and you have to watch your weather window.....

Re: tuna outing this Sat ??
Nick - thanks - I spun a million permutations in my mind, mostly with radical surgery involved, before coming to the simple solution.
That is strictly home grown - I don't have an original splashwell box, but when you mentioned it, I looked at the specs page to see what it was - don't know why they made that angle forward - I suppose to clear the tall in-line 6 cyl Mercs of the day - and doing mine this way was relatively quick, simple, and cheap, so it can be a throw-away if I repower to something physically very different that becomes a non-fit - though I pretty well like the Johnson V4 layout, as a good fit for this boat. A nice side benefit, that my son and I noticed right away, was that it greatly reduced motor noise in the cockpit. Now I gotta add one of those big, fish box sized coolers, like you have - the fishwell under the rear port seat ain't big enough for big fish. What size are those you have ?? And then... outriggers, a la Boatapeje - trolling two birds/daisy chains - if I ran them back aways they started to converge on each other, very hard to put something else down the middle ... And then, I suppose, either a radar arch w/ rod holders, or a full blown hard / soft top rig, along the lines of your hardtop.... but then, if I really got my stuff together, I'd probably want to jump up to a 23' Sceptre I/O.... Boys - keep your wives happy - divorce sucks big time financially, and otherwise.... is it the boat bug, or the fishing bug ????? Bill |

Re: tuna outing this Sat ??
Rusty - I've heard that before - seems like a lot of people don't like bluefish...
We fillet them, and leave the skin on - take a fillet, place it on a piece of aluminum foil, add some lemon juice and a little butter, then a little seasoning - Old Bay is good if you have it, then close up the Al foil - fold it over so it's sealed up, and put it on the grill - 12 mins and it's done, flesh comes right off the skin! Add some corn, tomatoes, veggies to taste, beer.... same method works real good for stripers, too... my son and I are hard core, but I study the damn weather pretty carefully - I know I can let 1-2's blow up into 3-5's, but I wouldn't start out in 3-4's, if there was any chance of it getting worse - and NOAA forecasts suck up here... Re: tuna outing this Sat ??
Recipie sounds good will have to try it on some snapper and the beer makes everthing taste better. Noaa sucks here to you have to use it as a guide and chsck the wind models and the sea buoys as well and then make you best guess and we usually hit it better than noaa.

Re: tuna outing this Sat ??
Chance - funny you should ask -
I'm also looking to make a go of it - watching the weather close last time I went on a similar forcast it was easy in the am, but when it turned to the SW, and stiffened, it was mildly snotty going back to Sandwich - but - for me, the end of the season is coming, and judging from reel-time, the tuna are in CCB this past week - so I'm gonna bust my balls to get there anybody else up to give it a go ??
