What kinds of engine instruments are on your boat?

How are they computing fuel flow, what inputs?
These the ones made in NZ?
What happened to the old one?

I have to say that the smartcraft calc'ed fuel use is dead on for the injected mercs. On several offshore trips where I used 80-90 gallons, the indicated fuel used was almost exactly the amount to refill at the pump....with 1-2 gallons for an 80+ gallon fill. It also gives you the instantaneous fuel burn rate. I would think that similar performance could be had on on the gauges of any computer controlled fuel injected engine....since the injections are relatively precise. Interesting for the smartcraft tach and speedo, they both have a fuel burn rate and total used number for display. If you reset one when you fill up, and only reset the other when you start a trip, you can have a total used since fill up and a total for that trip. The guages are independent and keep the info internal to themselves.

PHNX - There is a little ball that spins inside the sender, some sort of sensor counts the number of rotations of that ball and the computer calculates the flow (GPH). I don't know anymore detail than that, but both units were very accurate. The gauge buttons on the interface of the f2100 were different.

Sounds a proper sender to me.
What did the setup cost, who'd you get it from, and did you self-install?
Is the readout both dial and digital?

PHNX - I paid $150 from boaters world for the f2100. I can't remember what I paid for the f41. These units are simple to install . . . just follow the directions. Flowscan is the only unit I know of with a digital and dial readout. My brother had a flowscan for 3 years and the gauge rusted up real badly.

Jim from Boe Marine put in a good word for the Lowrance units. If I get another one . . . I'll probably go with that one.

Wow the Lowrance is some do-it-all display and very compact.
Will check further; but apparently the unit you have does its job well, sometimes a straightforward, do one thing but do it well, is better than try too much multi-purpose units.
