Anyone ever under brace/knee the gunnels?

why not recreate the horizonal rod holders under the gunnel? design them so that tie the gunnel to the liner then on to the floor. that way you have a structural member but at the same time it serve a double purpose. i was think of doing this to strenghin the gunnel where my outriggers mount because i have a good amout of flex even with 12" x12" backing plates. even if you have to make three for each side and space them 24" apart it will look and function ALOT better once glassed in and painted, than metal plates and machine screws... just my .02

The 23 in chatham looked at had stainless countersinks thru the outside hull,ss bolts with head outside of hull in the countersink, to the u shaped clamps on bottom of swivel holders, and seemed to solve both problems at once (clamping the bottom of swivel and bracing the gunnel).

Was this the yellow Sceptre? If so thats the way to do it....less the carrige bolts. Glass a block on the liner instaed and bolt the support clamps to it. Spare your outside finish. I dont know what brand my bud had but they look like these with the support clamps.
