New 150 Johnson Prop Size?
I just purchased a new 2002 150 Johnson for m 71 20 CC project. Any advice from those with similar engines and boats on prop size for me would be great. Also, what do people think about the steering system, would a cable be alright or is the hydraulic a good choice?

Re: New 150 Johnson Prop Size?
EP- THAT ENGINE WILL MOST LIKELY NEED
A 19" PITCH PROP. STILETTO IS A GOOD STAINLESS PROP IF YOU NEED ONE. YOU SHOULD KEEP THE RPMS ON THE HIGH SIDE OF THE RECOMENDED RANGE. THE SEASTAR STEERING IS MUCH NICER THAN CABLE AND YOU CAN FIND GREAT DEALS ON USED SYSTEMS. CHRIS |

Re: New 150 Johnson Prop Size?
I had a 78 20' Master Angler with a '95 150 'rude and swung a 19" SST. It would run up to 5200 RPM in light load (one person, less than half fuel).
Fully loaded for the Bahamas it would run up to 4900 RPM when trimmed properly. Go with Hydraulic steering if at all possible. I did and loved it. BuzzCutt

Re: New 150 Johnson Prop Size?
I like to prop boats with there normall load. If your fishing 4 people loads of ice and other items then be sure to have all that in the boat while trying different props. YOu want the RPMS to be at the top range. If you lug a outboard it will have a very short life. The dealer that sold you the engine should prop it out with you. If the dealer will not work with you then I would try a 19 first.

Re: New 150 Johnson Prop Size?
Thanks guys, looks like the 19 is close. Where would one find used hydraulic steering systems?
