I have a 1984 23' CC and have no problem with my 1999 200HP Yami. With that said, I would love to have a little more. I think a 250 would be great on the 23.

My cousin has a 200hp Johnson on his 23 SC CC and it is fine. But, I think I am going to like the 250 even better.

I've had 200 and 225 H.P. motors on my 23. The 225 has a better hole shot and top end, but there isn't a dramatic difference. The cruise speed is only a knot or two higher with the 225.

Ditto MM33's comments. My 200 is an '89 Yamaha and seems adequate. I got low 40's with a light load. Give me $18,000 and it will be replaced with an eTec 250...

IMO, a 225 is minimum for what I consider "adequate" performance. I'm no speed demon, but I like a mid/high 20 knot cruise, and a 225 will get you that. That said, 250 would be optimal for a single application.

Otto,
Run that old Yam another couple seasons and that E-tec will come down in price a bit.

I agree with Scott, a 200 is just big enough for my 20. I don't think it would put a 23 on a plane.

my 23 cc has a 200 merc top speed with 2 and a full tank is about 38 mph. No problem getting up on plane, probably 8 seconds , just no midrange power, its either wot or off plane, agravating in choppy water. Planning on a 250 soon. Les

200 is fine, but if you have the opportunity to then go larger. I have a 200 but will go a little bigger when I repower, but for now she's good.
