I'm getting to work on the '65 Bowrider, and I'm curious about the lack of scuppers. It currently has none, so any water in the boat goes into the bilge to be pumped out. This boat is going out in the rips, and although I'm putting two bilge pumps in, no scuppers makes me a bit nervous. Of course it does solve the "Seacraft scupper below the waterline" problem, but I'm wondering how you other bowrider owners have dealt with this.

Yeah.. they didn't come with them. Self bailing wasn't an option..lol. Mine has the factory molded in splash well across the back, with the flip up wood thingy. I've drifted in some pretty ruff stuff and taken wakes into the splash well but very little gets into the bilge. Most of the water that gets into the bilge during fishing is from washing the deck down. But I do have two 1500 Rule's just in case..

Don,
no splashwell, but remember mine's an I/O. I'll post a pic of the rear of the deck later on today. There's a raised rectangular piece about 1 1/2 by 2" or so 4 or 5" in front of the transom, which I would have to go through if I did add scuppers. For now I'm going to run it the way it is though. With two good bilge pumps..... rockdoc

If you have an I/O I really wouldn't sweat it to much, when your fishing.. just when it rains at night and your wondering if you put the pump switch to "Auto"..

Rockdoc,
The innerliner was a sealed-air-tight compartment to the hull. There should have been two scupper holes in the aft cockpit corners with drain tubes that crossed to the opposite sides for draining. This was for the protection in case one side of the transome got caught under a dock. Originally there were flappers on these drains. Under the engine cover, the liner had about a 6" raised lip, to keep 'washdown' from running into the bilge area. Do you still have the original inner liner? or has the flooring been replaced? Seeing some pictures of your inside transome area will be good too.

Carla, my BR has what definitely looks like an original liner, but there are no drain holes or scuppers. And there's no raised lip to keep water out of the engine area, so washdown looks like it goes right down around the engine and down into the bilge. There is a raised piece running across the back end of the deck, ahead of the transom, which is a couple of inches high and wide. Here's a quick pic I took:
![]() I'll be getting into some serious work on the boat this weekend, weather permitting, so I should be getting a whole photo album up real soon! Carla, when you say the drain tubes cross to the other side, do you mean from port to starboard and starboard to port? I'm trying to picture how that would work. By the way, here's an interesting view of the '65 (green) next to the '70 Seafari (blue), showing some of the difference in bow profiles. ![]() rockdoc

I have the exact same liner. I just don't have the motor box, I have a hatch that covers that opening and under it is the battery. Mine is orginal as the boat was never modified.

Rockdoc, There is a definite difference in bow lines!
I will look forward to seeing your photo album & comparing notes & differences. My BR does not have the engine lip either, but if I rub my hand on the edge, it's rough as though it was sawed off. It does look like you have the original gelcoated inner liner...that's a good thing. Looking forward to seeing more pictures!
