Re: Bracket Project
Chuck's been helping me make a bracket. I got into a little mess after doing some nice glass work . . . I guess I didn't properly catalyze the first layer of glass and the tub of the braket got all fk'd up when I broke open the mold. It's gonna be lots of fairing to make it pretty, but I've got two sides somewhat faired already. I'm hoping it'll be ready by turkeyday.

Re: Bracket Project
nice job guys- keeps the pix coming- are you going to add floatation to it???? How much does/will it weigh???

Re: Bracket Project
Bigshrimpin....that looks great. Makes more tempted to try that myself....although I want a twin bracket. My questions would be...how did you determine the dimensions???
Especially the height to mount it on the full transom and the height at the rear of the bracket??? |

Re: Bracket Project
The dimensions were tough to figure out. Luckily strick had worked through it before. This bracket will have a 26" setback. Supposedly you need to raise the motor one inch for every 12" of setback. So I made the bracket 23" tall which gives me a 4" gap at the bottom for the hull drain plugs. 25" + 2" (to account for the setback) => 27" = 23" (bracket height) + 4". The width is 38" b/c that was the width of the fiberglass fabric I used. 13 degrees is what I measured for the angle of the transom. When I calculated the positive floatation . . . I got somewhere around 400 lbs (depending on the final weight of the bracket. |

Re: Bracket Project
Sorry big, I'm a little thick. The engine mount is higher
than the front top of the bracket....so is the top of where the engines mount now 27" above a line from the keel back?? Or is the bracket 23" high at the front?? I have a stainless marine aluminum twin bracket, but I really like the idea of a fiberglass bracket. This bracket is also flat across the bottom and I think a V bottom bracket that matched the transom deadrise would give more flotation and look better too. I like your gallery of photos.... |

Re: Bracket Project
bayouboy - you got it. The top of the bracket (where the motor bolts on) will be 27" up if you drew a line from the keel back.
