Default anyone running a yami 225 4 stroke on a 23 cc?

Is this engine too heavy for a 23 transom mount? I have heard that this motor only puts out about 210 hp? Will it be a dog on this boat? What about a 300 hpdi?

I have the 225 two stroke Saltwater Series and has more that enough power for my 23 CC mounted on the transom. At to the 225 4 strokes Yes they are heavier and have less power to them. That would not be my first choice now a days. For the 2 stroke top on the list would be Evenrudes Etec. for 4 stroke Suzuki 250 would be my first choice. As for 300 ponies I would wait two years and let someone else to the Bata testing first before I would buy, Plus you don’t need that much power or weight on the back of a transom anyway.

the 250 has a lot more torque available due to the varible cam timing, not found on the 225, they have changed the cams since their initial introduction on the 225 to help with the lack of bottom end, but it still doesn't run with the 2 strokes

The 250 Yam. 4S runs better than the 225 Yam. 4S, but no where close to the Suzuki 250 4S.

I wish I could dance at 52mph with my 23'. My 250HP carbed on the bracket won't do it. Maybe I need one of those welfare motors

Snaponron, I have a 225 EFI merc 20" on the back of my 20 SF and it carries it no problem. You're 23 should easily hold a 225. My advise is wait sometime, if you can and get the 300.

I don't have any opinions on the 23 with a 225, I have a 20 SF. But I am currently looking at a boat that has twin 300 HDPI's, 2004 vintage on the back. In my research I am finding alot of people complaining about fouled plugs and other problems causing them to lose entire seasons of use. Also Yamahas dealing with these problems has not been so good. Not to derail this thread but does anyone have opinions on the 300's and the problems they came with??
Thanks guys.

My buddy keith has a honda 225 on his 2003 23' it now has 1800 hours on it when it was newer it would run 50knts but it has lost some power over the last year or so. The only problem he has had so far is the alignment bearing that is halfway between the powerhead and the lowerunit seized last month. Honda put a new lowerunit on under warranty.
