23 cc questions
Well I think I have my mine made up on picking up a 23CC.
So I have a few questions about pick out for myself and family. There are a few around me but I am not sure which would be the best. I would like to find a running example that I may use a bit before digging in to it. I just missed a real nice one in miami with a porter bracket and even the walk through door! I should have gotten in the car and gone and looked at it sooner! So my options are a mid 70's inboard with newer 454. boat needs some TLC. overall looks like it could be decent but I would like a bracketed outboard in the future and I am not sure if converting a straight inboard would be a good candidate? Next option is a mid 70's that has the floor and ready removed. That one would require work. There is an inclosed transom and the exterior hull is nice and painted, stringers rebuilt but no floor or console or engines. What i dont know about though is how hard will it be to make the new complete new floor? I dont believe there is any of the old floor left. So i would have to make the entire floor from scratch. Would that be a very difficult job? Next option is a 84 23cc in decent condition all stock. The 1 and 3 option are similarly priced the second option is about half the price. I would love some guidance from all the wonderful knowledge members on here. Ideally I would like to have a nice 23 with a bracket and dual outboards for the runs to the islands possibly a walk through transom door for the kids and wife as well to dive off of. Thanks in advance and i really look forward the information! |

Re: 23 cc questions
Personally I am a fan of the inboards - add a swim platform or a ladder and you have a good candidate for family diving.
As far as the other two are concerned, the word "family" would make up my mind. Do you have the time to invest in the project? Because if you have to pay someone to rebuild the floor and refinish it you might be better off buying the turn key choice. Then there is the expense of re-powering the project. Good luck |

Re: 23 cc questions
I chose the floor less one. Why would any one want a good running boat when you can have one all in pieces?? You can spend the next 6 months of your life may by even up to a year working on, getting frustrated trying to put it back together again. You will miss the joy of picking fiberglass out of your arms, cutting your fingers, inhaling toxic fumes, working in cramped spaces and on and on and on.
Do I sound crazy??? Well a lot of the guys on this sight are a lot crazier than me and I have learned to admire them in what they have accomplished re building their boats. Matter of fact if I had the time I just might re do some more of my 23 CC FellowShip ……………………… Just for the Grins Official Antique Classic SeaCraft Owner |

Re: 23 cc questions
Early this year we tons of 23's come up for sale, you will have to go a couple pages back to find them - a drive someplace would be easier than doing a floor.

Fellow Ship
Beautiful seacraft you have there! I am use to working on boats, not resteration though. It is difficult looking at all the great boats on here. It really makes you want to tear in to one and make it your own. I do have a lot of time and very much do enjoy working on boats. I am in palm beach so I also have access to all the supplies and some very knowledgeable people with how many boat manufactures close by. But on the other hand it would be nice to find a boat I could use now! |

Re: 23 cc questions
The best deal I've seen on a sweet one is the light blue one for 25K - can't remember where it was - the one in SC looks real nice and done in '07
